Micrografx Windows Draw 5 on newer systems
« on: July 26, 2014, 08:52:14 am »
This method will not work with Draw 6 if you want to get Micrografx Draw 6 working there is currently a service available from the links on the post from this topic http://windowsdraw.createaforum.com/support/enable-micrografx-windows-draw-6-on-a-64-bit-computer/ where you can purchase a guide, there is also support for running Draw 5 natively too.

If you have a VM with a working copy of Windows XP or your old pc all you need to do is install this program on to the old computer running a 32-bit version of Windows XP, 7, 8 or 8.1 and copy the files from either C:\Program Files\Micrografx\ or C:\Program Files (x86) \Micrografx\  to the new computer afterwards Windows Draw 5 should run as normal except for that dialog that the beginning talking about using the registry. This method is more fiddly than the support methods used with draw 6 as i have to end task to start the program because there is a dialog behind the splash screen. Draw 5 could be made working with less fiddling everytime you start the program by getting support from the same place as Draw 6.

The help files don’t work but you can get them back using the suggestions on this page http://windowsdraw.createaforum.com/general-discussion/help-files-for-classic-programs/ this not only works for draw 5 but a lot of other programs that have this issue

The main difference between draw 6 and 5 is the fact that there isnt a style gallery on draw 5 where you can easily update the fonts, I also don’t see the great calendar function were I could easy make calendars I also have a lot more shapes I can easily draw in draw 6 including the star. There are probably a number of other stuff where draw 6 is better than draw 5, But for very basic drawing etc,  draw 5 is OK.
